Description/History:

Description: (1811-1888) Union naval captain who commanded
the USS Varuna during Farragut's capture of New Orleans. He was
forced to beach his vessel after two Confederate rams crippled the
craft. He also commanded the vessels USS Juniata, and USS Connecticut
during the war.
