Description/History:
Seated pose of Groo, with sword, who enlisted in 1862
as a 2nd lieutenant, and served with his regiment during
the Chattanooga campaign, the Atlanta campaign,
and during Shermans March to the Sea. He was discharged
for disability less than a month before the wars ended,
on March 20, 1865. Period ink ided on the verso as:
Lt. Groo, 127th N. Y. by a person who unwittingly
misidentified his regiment. Records show that there was
only one Groo listed who was an officer in the entire
Union army.
