Full Name: Austin Harris (ca. 1865)

Rank: Sgt. Co. D, 1st Conn. Cavalry

Description/History:
Crisp seated pose of Harris wearing a short style
cavalry shell jacket, and holding his kepi.
Interestingly, the upper chevron strip is darker than
the lower two, and possibly this was done because
he was reduced in rank from being a sergeant to a
private during early 1865. Harris served throughout
the war as a member of this very hard fought regiment,
and was fought at the battles of Cross Keys, Va.,
Yellow Tavern, Va., May 11, 1864
(where JEB Stuart was killed), and during the
Appomattox campaign.
Period ink inscription on the verso.

BM: H.J. Reed, Worchester, MA.,
with green three-cent stamp.

Condition: Deep rich contrast, else very good.
