Description/History:
Nice seated pose showing the famous Confederate general
wearing a high quality uniform.
He graduated West Point in 1854, resigned his commission
in early 1861, and became colonel of the 19th Alabama
later that year. As a cavalryman, he was wounded by an
explosion of a shell at the battle of La Vergne, Tenn.,
Nov. 27, 1862. While a major general, he was wounded
at the opening of the Atlanta campaign. During Shermans
1865 Carolina campaign, he led cavalry forces in a futile
attempt to stop the Union onslaught. He was injured during a
spirited fight with former Union officers at Nashville,
Tennessee during August 1865.
