Description/History:
Sharp engraved portrait bust view of Ewell
who graduated from West Point in 1836.
He resigned in early 1861, and became a general
in Robert E. Lees Army of Northern Virginia.
Overall he was wounded five times during the war,
and lost his left leg at the battle of Groveton
August 28, 1862. Amazingly, he would have been
wounded at battle of Gettysburg when a Yankee
bullet hit his wooden leg.
Remaining in service throughout the war.
He was the last high-ranking Confederate general
captured during battle. After his entire command was
surrounded during the battle of Saylors Creek, April 6, 1865.
