Full Name:: Joseph Hooker "Fighting Joe" (1862)

Rank: Brigadier General

Description/History:
Full seated pose of Hooker who appears with his
officer’s sword. He graduated from West Point in 1833.
After serving during the Mexican War, he gained fame
during the Civil War after a newspaperman nicknamed
him, in early 1862, as “Fighting Joe” during the
Peninsular Campaign. He commanded the Army of the
Potomac at the battle of Chancellorsville, and was
relieved from command during the middle of the
Gettysburg campaign. Serving under Sherman during
the Atlanta campaign, he was relieved from command
by that general after the battle of Atlanta.
