Full Name: William Raymond Lee (ca. 1862.)

Rank: Col. William R. Lee, 20th Mass. Vols.

Description/History:
A stunning full seated pose of Lee who was
mustered on July 21, 1861. He was captured,
along with many other members of his regiment,
on Oct. 21, 1861 during the battle of Ball’s Bluff,
Virginia. He was condemned to death by
Confederate authorities, after American
government decided to execute Rebel privateers
as traitors. His sentence was stayed when a
compromise was reached, and subsequently
retired from the army on December 17, 1862.
In 1865, he was breveted brigadier general for
meritorious service displayed during the battle
of Antietam.
