- Brigadier General USV, May 1861.
- Army of the Potomac,
August 1861 September, 1862.
- In 1862 introduced the first application
of the Corps Badge.
- Wounded in the chest at the battle
of Charles Cross Roads, Va., June 30, 1862.
- Major General USV, (posthumously), July, 1862.
- Killed in action during the battle of Chantilly, Va.,
during a downpour, September, 1862.
