Description/History:
CA great view of the USS Ticonderoga, at anchor, during wash
day off the coast of Smyrna, Italy 1866. The Ticonderoga was
commissioned in May 1863, and directed to guard against
Confederate raiders. In 1864 she was sent to search for
Confederate raiders, and in the latter part of 1864 was sent in
search of the CSS Florida. In January 1865 she took part in the
attacks on Fort Fisher, North Carolina, and finally ended her
Civil War career as part of the South Atlantic Blockading
Squadron. In 1866, after modifications were made to her
rigging, she was sent to European waters, and operated in the
Mediterranean off Africa until 1869. Decommissioned in 1882
she was sold for scrap in 1887.
