Description/History:
Appointed as brigadier general on Aug. 9, 1861,
and commanded a brigade in Heintzelmans III
Corps. He was accused by General Porter of
declaring that he would not abandon his wounded
soldiers during the battle of Malvern Hill. In 1864
he led a division in the XVIII Corps during the
battles of Cold Harbor, Bermuda Hundred, and
the siege of Petersburg.
